Visiting the Grandparents

For those that have been regular readers from the start, you might remember that visiting the grandparents, was a regular Sunday routine before lockdown. We hadn’t been since the middle of March, but with the kids missing them, and especially their dog Mack. We decided we’d go over for a visit, and try and keep the kids to social distance.

It was lovely to get out to somewhere different for a change. My parents live out in the Derbyshire Dales, where it’s picturesque and lovely and quiet. So it’s always nice to go for a visit. When we got there I took a video of the kids seeing Mack, to see how excited they all were. To be fair, Mack is usually more excitable but it was a hot day.

It was nice of Mack to run straight past me, he did at least go to Lily. But his best buddy is undoubtedly Jack. All I’ve heard for the last 8 weeks is, “How do you think Mack is doing?” The kids have been so looking forward to this visit, it was great to finally do it.

A walk to the park

As it was such a lovely day, we decided to go for a walk to the local park. When we got there we had the park completely to ourselves. We played football, which was nice. I’m certainly out of practise, I was exhausted by the time we got back.

It was good to get out there in some fresh country air, on the sunshine. The kids absolutely loved it. I’m not sure when we will all go back again, we will see how things are. It is was really nice visiting the grandparents, and gave us all a boost.

Going out and about again

It’s been clear to see lots of people have been going out and about again, this was our step in that direction. We are all in pretty good health, so we decided it should be okay. I just had to remind the kids we still have to social distance before we went, which they were good at.

We won’t be rushing to the beach though, or any other tourist place that will be packed with people. It’s still too early for that in my opinion, and to be honest I don’t like crowded places anyway. So I’m in no massive rush to join the madness. How are you doing? Have you gone to see family yet? Or started venturing further afield. I’d love to hear how you are taking things, in the comments below.

Dad Does Autism

My name is Adam. I live with my partner Natalie, and our 2 children Jack and Lily. Both children are autistic, it is now my mission to show what life around autism is like. Spread the awareness and gain the acceptance that autistic people deserve.

This is really lovely, I have two little ones who are missing their grandparents a lot too.
We have done what my mum calls a curb side coffee, where we sit on one curb and her and my dad the other. My dog is as excited as Mack when she sees my mum and dad. Thanks for sharing

I bet the kids absolutely loved seeing the Grandparents, this is more people out which is good to see, but then you get the other set of people who just don’t socially distance and that annoys me. It’s nearly been 3 months since I saw my partner, but hoping soon we can be reunited. A great post this is Adam and also brought so much positiveness to others 😁

Yeah, you just need to be sensible, but that’s asking a lot of some people 🤦‍♂️

Awh Mack! So glad he got to be reunited with the kids again and that’s so cute that Jack always asks how Mack is doing. Dogs and children really do have such a special bond!

They certainly do, and it’s great to see 😊 the level of cuteness depends on how often Jack’s asks how Mack is, it can be several times an hour some days 🤣

This is such a sweet and lovely post. Reading this post reminds me of my childhood days. My parents also loved taking me to visit my grandparents every weekend when I was a child. Now, my grandparents are not in this world anymore. I miss them.

Sounds like a nice day! We’ve been seeing grandparents once a week or so but only at home, not going any public places yet. It’s so nice for the kids. And for mom to get a break.

It’s definitely much needed, busy public places are way off for us yet, especially as you know people are going to be rushing to them for a while.

Looks like you had a lovely day! I’m definitely not in a rush to head to all the busy tourist places, i think it’s still far too risky. I’m seeing my grandparents for the first time since all this started tonight which will be lovely, just waiting on the day when i’m able to go and see my partner again, he’s 2 hours away so a bit too far for a day trip!

Thank you, it’s nice that you’ll be seeing your grandparents 😊 you’re the second person who’s not seen their partner over lockdown, can only imagine how difficult that is!

I love that went to see family! I have not seen my grandmother in quite some time, even though she is only four hours away. Nothing beats seeing a loved one in the flesh, so I know you must have had a joyous time.

Your time in the park sounded amazing; so green and fresh and full of fun!
As for me going places, I want to go pick fruit when the orchards near us open up. I love fresh cherries. 🙂
